June 16, 2023

Hello,

I'm excited to share that Visit Orlando was named one of the "Best Places to Work in Central Florida" by the Orlando Business Journal (OBJ)! Based on an employee satisfaction survey, Visit Orlando was recognized for cultivating an exceptional workplace.

According to the OBJ, the program aims to identify exceptional workplaces whose offices and operation centers boast leaders who go above and beyond to ensure they provide their employees with a fulfilling place to work.

Back in 2021, when we developed our 2022–2024 strategic plan, becoming a top place to work in Central Florida was a target we established. Since then, as an organization we created new core values, enhanced benefits and offered ongoing opportunities to gauge employee feedback.

This recognition is a testament to the progress we have made to firmly establish Visit Orlando as a leader in the travel and tourism industry. If you know anyone looking to join our award-winning organization, we have several full-time positions open and are recruiting now for fall interns. Find out more on our careers page.

Honoring the 49 Lives Lost Through Pulse Remembrance Events

It's been seven years since the tragedy at Pulse Nightclub on June 12, 2016. As a community, we will continue to remember the victims and support their family members, Pulse survivors and the first responders who made sacrifices to assist all individuals involved. To honor the 49 lives lost, Orlando's community celebrated Orlando United Day and several Central Florida organizations hosted programs and ceremonies.

The onePULSE Foundation held a Seven-Year Pulse Remembrance Ceremony in Steinmetz Hall at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. In addition, One Orlando Alliance encouraged the community to act, love and give through their annual Acts of Love and Kindness program and the Orlando Museum of Art showcased the Inspiration Orlando United mural. Hotel Metrics

Metro Orlando occupancy for the week ending June 10, 2023, was 67.4%, down from last week's 63.3% and down 7.6% from the same week last year. The Average Daily Rate for the week was $183.28, down 1.3% from last year.

The softening continues to be more pronounced in the leisure segment. Advance hotel bookings are pointing at about a 5% lag in transient (leisure) pace for the summer period from last year's strong performance. Diminished pent-up demand, high travel prices, and elevated competition could all contribute to shifts in leisure travel trends this year. Speaking of competition, U.S. Citizen departures to international regions, including Canada and Mexico air, have exceeded the same time period in 2019 through May 2023.

Group bookings, on the other hand, continue to pace ahead of last year, balancing out softer leisure demand and smoothing out weekday valleys.
